Do NOT Say These Things When Someone Passes Away (Especially Not #4)

When someone loses a loved one, words matter more than we realize. Even well-intended phrases can feel dismissive or painful during grief.

Here are common things to avoid — and why 👇

1️⃣ “Everything Happens for a Reason”

This may be meant to comfort, but in early grief it can feel:

• Minimizing
• Spiritually pressuring
• Dismissive of their pain

Grief isn’t a lesson — it’s a loss.

2️⃣ “At Least They Lived a Long Life”
