1. Prepare the denim fabric.
Cut one leg of the jeans and open it along the side seam to obtain a flat piece. Fold the fabric in half, even it out to form a rectangle, and use a plate with chalk to round the top corners.

2. Attach pockets and base to the bag.
Cut out the pockets from the jeans and sew them onto the main fabric. Then add the lining to reinforce the bag’s structure.

3. Cut the complementary pieces.
With the other leg of the jeans, cut a strip 14 x 64 cm and divide it in two.
From the remaining fabric, cut:

  • A square measuring 14 × 20 cm
  • Two rectangles of 10 × 50 cm

Join the square to the strips using the sewing machine and add inner lining.

4. Assemble the bag and attach the handles.
Fold the pieces to the opposite side and sew along a straight line. Turn the fabric right side out. Mark 5 cm from each side at the top and sew the handles there, centering the long strip for balance.

5. Sew the inside and finish.
Sew a complete inner lining as if it were another bag, leaving a small opening at the bottom to turn the fabric right side out. Turn the bag right side out through this opening and finally sew the open part closed.
The bag is now ready to use.

Tips and recommendations

  • Use thick thread or thread specifically for jeans, as denim is a durable fabric.
  • If the jeans are very thick, use a heavy-duty fabric needle on the machine.
  • Reinforce the handles with double stitching to prevent them from breaking.
  • You can decorate the bag with patches, embroidery, fabric paint, or buttons.
  • Wash the jeans before working with them to avoid subsequent shrinkage.
  • If you are a beginner, mark all the lines with chalk before sewing.
