Why do these plaques appear?
Hives occur when certain skin cells release histamine, a substance involved in inflammatory reactions. The result: redness, swelling, and itching.
But what triggers this reaction?
The most frequent causes:
- Reactions to certain foods (seafood, eggs, nuts, milk)
- Certain medications (such as antibiotics or anti-inflammatories)
- Viral or bacterial infections
- Insect bites
- Contact with certain materials (latex, chemicals)
Sometimes the triggering factor is obvious. Other times, it remains difficult to identify.
