Homemade insecticide: a natural solution to control common household and garden pests

Liquid detergent
breaks down the protective layer of many small insects (such as aphids or mealybugs) and allows the solution to work on contact. It also helps the liquid adhere better to the leaves.

White vinegar:
Its acidity and strong odor are unpleasant to many insects. It also helps clean up residue, bacteria, and sticky messes that attract pests.

Water
serves as a base to dilute the mixture and prevent it from being too strong for the plants.

Ingredients

  • 1 liter of water
  • 1 tablespoon of liquid detergent (preferably neutral)
  • 2 tablespoons of white vinegar

(If the infestation is mild, you can use only 1 tablespoon of vinegar.)

How to prepare it step by step

  1. Fill a bottle with 1 liter of water.
  2. Add the liquid detergent.
  3. Add the white vinegar.
  4. Mix gently without shaking vigorously to avoid excessive foam.
  5. Place the preparation in a spray bottle.

The solution is now ready to use.

How to apply it correctly

  • Spray directly onto leaves, stems, or areas with insects.
  • Apply especially to the underside of the leaves, where they tend to hide.
  • Use preferably in the afternoon or early in the morning.
  • Repeat every 3–4 days if the infestation continues.

On household surfaces (corners, window frames, areas where ants pass), you can spray lightly and then clean.
